King-Devick Remediation Software

The National Assessment of Educational Progress reported that children who are not proficient readers by the 4th grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school. However, only 34% of 4th graders are proficient readers, and this rate does not improve with age as 34% of 8th graders are proficient readers. Only three quarters of American high school students graduate, leaving behind 1.3 million students each year. Students who do not graduate high school earn substantially lower wages than those who earn a high school diploma. It is estimated that dropouts from the class of 2010 will cost the United States over $337 billion in lost wages over the course of their lifetimes. There is a clear and immediate need for a program that can intervene to increase reading proficiency in today's youth.
